frame up

today the garden cold frame pieces went together in the morning and in the afternoon we paraded them down the railroad tracks behind my building to the garden and stood them upright. these things are really flimsy until they're attached to the ground. i didn't properly take into account the variation in terrain so the frames need quite a bit of levelling. that's tomorrow's project along with installing the cross-bracing, end walls and the plastic cover. it amazes me how much cozier the garden feels with a frame over it--just the suggestion of structure, really--almost like a little chapel. i might put a small sitting area in it because, supposedly, in the middle of winter, the temperature can get up into the 70s in one of these things. that would be swell. many thank you's to marco, david and randy who helped me carry and install these. i'll be needing more help with the plastic.
